Throttle / User Control Unit (UCU)

Exposed to the ever-changing weather and positioned on top of the handlebar, the e-bikes User Control Unit (UCU) has a high failure risk. It has to cope with vibrations, occasional hits, low temperatures and water, which all could result in cracked connections, failing parts and even short circuiting. Most UCUs are exclusively designed for a certain version of e-bike, making the diversity high. Chances are that older UCUs aren’t available anymore at one point, making remanufacturing an excellent alternative solution.

There’s an enormous difference between the available user control units. The more basic ones may make use of a relatively simple printed circuit board with common parts, but the most advanced user control units contain parts that are comparable to those in mobile phones. The increasing amount of options like e-bike ABS and a full colour touch screen forced the manufacturers to change their way of engineering.

Understanding the various electronic designs requires specific know-how. Our specialists have already developed extensive experience in similar fields, making it relatively easy to understand the used techniques. Highly automated methods are used in order to achieve a low cost high quality remanufacturing process:

  • Components are disassembled by using advanced automatic tools
  • Repetitive movements are carried out by robot arms
  • The cleaning procedure can be performed with automated wet blasting, automated dry ice blasting or even robotised ultrasonic cleaning
  • The component can be opened by CNC, its casting compound can be chemically or mechanically removed and (parts of) the housing can be renewed
  • All components and parts are transported by Automatic Guided Vehicles (AGVs)
  • More complex and specialist operations require our ultrasonic wire bonding machines, BGA placement equipment, various test and simulation platforms and fully automated glue dispensing robots

Our methods have been developed with a clear goal in mind: to achieve the highest possible efficiency. This results in a short turnaround time with a high reliability.

The entire process is carried out according to ISO9001 and ISO14001 in an ESD protected environment (IATF16949 to be expected).
