The development of battery technology has gained great momentum in recent years. The rise of electric vehicles and the ever-ongoing innovation in the mobile phone business pushes technology to new limits. Even the batteries from e-bikes benefit from this progression. Once starting with NiCd and NiMH, Li-ion now turns out to be the new standard. By using the popular 18650 cells from respectable companies like LG, Panasonic, Samsung and Sony, charge cycle counts of over 500 times are possible.
However, an e-bike battery pack has to function in harsh conditions, making the total lifespan relatively short and the failure rate inordinately high. Low operating temperatures, vibrations and moist all contribute in failures. Due to the fact that opening these faulty batteries could be dangerous (short circuit, fire), the e-bike industry isn’t used to remanufacturing yet. But with the right amount of knowledge, e-bike batteries are the perfect components for giving it a second life, since new e-bike batteries still sell at high prices. We are able to offer high value solutions that will exceed OEM specifications.
In their research, our professionals have also taken the extra step to examine possible future battery solutions like the new LiFePO4 cells. In terms of durability and fire risks, this battery really takes the e-bike to a new level. In the near future it may even be used to upgrade current failing batteries. Experimenting on this level shows our serious attitude towards battery technology.
